Project Overview

Vehicle traffic along the corridor

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is conducting an intersection analysis and improvement design for the I-91 Exit 19 Interchange. Though the 2004 CT River Crossing Transportation Study recommended construction of a full interchange at the Exit 19 Interchange, this study will include a detailed alternatives analysis and evaluation that reviews a number of build and no build options. This analysis will include updated traffic information and consideration of more recently-proposed development projects in the area.

In addition, this project includes traffic analysis, roadway design, environmental analysis, and a large public outreach effort. The result of the project will be a 100 percent complete highway design and the federal, state, and local regulatory approvals required to begin construction.

The Project Team is organized around meeting the goal of increasing mobility in the I-91 Interchange 19 area. The Project Team consists of Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the consultant team. TranSystem is the lead firm of the consultant team and has teamed with two others who are well known for their professional expertise, local understanding of issues and community needs, and their technical competence.
